RK ROYAL KLUDGE R65 Wired Mechanical Keyboard

I highly recommend getting this keyboard. For the price point, it is very well made and easy to use. It is heavy and structurally sound, showing that it is made with good materials. I have had no issues with any stickiness so far, the sound of the keys is very pleasant and soft, and it’s the perfect size for my hands. I wish it was Bluetooth, but honestly the cord is so small that it isn’t clunky or getting in the way. I really like it!

It's definitely what I was looking for: something compact and easy to carry. Its size makes everything easier, and it's very complete nothing to envy in a larger model.

THE MOST bang for buck product iv'e ever bought on amazon! gonna get one to my nephew as well. i fell in love with creamy switches with their adoreble typing sound thanks to this keyboard. feels great for gaming as well. and most importantly it feels like you got a quality product that's worth more than you paid for.

It is a very nice keyboard with good tactile, 'thocky' hot-swappable cream switches. It is so nice to type on and rgb with the different modes is nice and the ability to change the settings without software is a bonus. The only thing is the RGB is not bright enough if you are in a very dark room. If you have no light sources, you won't be able to see the keys clearly, so maybe illumination through the keys or brighter RGB would help. Other than that great keyboard and no issues with delivery and quality, it punches above its weight compared to the more expensive brands like Razer, Corsair and SteelSeries.

Got this for work and I’m obsessed! I like the clacky noises and appreciate they aren’t too loud to bother those around me. The back lights are really fun and I like that there’s so many options for them. Such a fantastic keyboard for work

So comfy to type on and it sounds amazing! Only thing is that it doesn’t have a number pad or function keys, but I knew that buying it, so no fault to the seller or product.

This keyboard is worth every penny that I paid for it the keycap texture is out of this world the key switches sound amazing and the volume knob I have had so much use out of the volume knob then I ever thought I would and there's little to no input latency for shooters or for just general typing you have so many customization for the backlighting I think there's more than 18 modes for backlighting that you can put it to almost any color

This keyboard is amazing. Just as advertised. I customized mine with some glass keys and it feels incredible. The weight it’s good, size of the keyboard is good for me. I’m very pleased.

I bought this in March 2025 for £50, I've had plenty of different mechanical keyboards over the past 15 years: Full-size, tenkeyless, 80%, 75%, 60%, Cherry red and blue switches, Gateron brown switches, etc etc. My expectations of this wired RK R65 were modest but to be honest I have been a little bit blown away.

The pre-lubed switches are linear, not normally my favourite type, but they are so smooth, and the PBT keycaps are very thick and give that great thock sound and feeling we all look for. I am also really happy with the smoother, rounder keycap profile. That may seem really picky, but I don't think I'll go back to sharp-edged traditional profile caps again. The wider keys like the space-bar don't rattle and they seem well stabilised, surprising for such a cheap board.

So now I've established that the typing experience is good, what don't I like?

- The grey outer bezel looks metallic from about 3ft away, but it is clearly plastic up close.

- There is no all white LED setting. The blue does complement the bronze/brown appearance though.

- No shine through keycaps is nice in the daylight, not so nice at night.

- Absolute worst thing, that I've not seen mentioned in these reviews, is the initial setup. You can't just plug this keyboard in and go. You have to go to the VIA website after downloading the firmware from the Royal Kludge website, then it wouldn't recognise the keyboard, then it sort of did, then none of the RGB light functions worked, then they did. I don't know if it was actively updating the firmware and that made it start working but I got it working properly eventually. A simple process yes, but not ideal for a peripheral that should at least type out of the box, it's literally a brick until you do that firmware update.

- While mine is the wired version, for some reason mine came with a USB dongle and a 3-way switch, which isn't in the press photos and isn't explained in the manual. So no idea what they're for.

I would give this a 4.5, but Amazon doesn't do partial stars. It loses 0.5 for that funky initial setup.

Update August 2025:

So after several months of happy use out of this keyboard, it has stopped functioning properly. Initially the top number row stopped, which led to much confusion when typing passwords with numbers. Then it about 3hrs later it just stopped functioning altogether. I can get it to light up when I press keys but Windows doesn't recognise the inputs. Trying to use the VIA website to setup the keyboard again is once again a pain, and it isn't working at all this time. A factory reset (FN key + spacebar for 3 seconds) fixed all this and VIA worked properly for the first time.

Wife loved her Christmas gift until it stopped working. Changed cables, tried several different computers… can’t even return it. I can’t recommend this brand right now.

Updated: they refunded the board for the inconvenience. Whole situation still a bummer but they made it right.

The feeling overall is great. It's got a creaminess to it and feels great to type on.

Pros:
- Compact size and layout if that's what you want.
- Reasonably priced
- Overall well designed and built, but could be sturdier.
- It functions how I want it to and as was expected. There is software but it's not healerly needed in my opinion

Cons:
- Wired only and no option for wireless.
- The keycaps are not translucent so the RGB doesn't fully come through.
- It can at times feel a little flimsy. Not a problem overall though.

Conclusion:
The creamy switches and overall build give for a great typing experience that I recommend. I enjoy using this and while I'm an enthusiast of mechanical keyboards, I do tend to keep coming back to this one for some reason more often. It is hot swappable but I have not found a better switch that I prefer in it yet.

the only thing i didn’t like were the switches. got some gateron milky yellow v2s and now it’s amazing! big fan of the mda profile, the stabs are pretty well lubed, and it’s got pretty decent dampening. i tape modded mine and it didn’t make a big difference, but that’s after changing switches. the only other thing that might be an issue for some is north facing leds, so cherry profile may be an issue (i don’t use cherry profile so it didn’t matter much to me) but for a plastic keyboard, it’s pretty good! i’ve had two custom keyboards before this, and i regret paying hundreds for them now. this however, i’ll be enjoying for the foreseeable future.

El teclado esta bien siento que es uno de los mejores que he probado pero el precio que me costo que fue 1500 pesos mexicanos que son aproximadamente 80 dólares siento que le falta modos de iluminaciones buenos y aparate si buscas un software en este teclado no tiene y el teclado como es puro plástico siento que con fuerza lo partes en dos pero si buscas un teclado con buen sonido y un diseño llamativo y buenos switches este puede ser una opción

Update on my review: The keyboard suddenly freezes and stops working. I had to unplug and plug it back in to make it work again. I wonder what I need to do to prevent this. I am using it on my MacBook Pro. :(

I have been looking for a mechanical keyboard with' creamy-sounding keys.' The ones I saw were expensive for the use I am after. I am not a gamer, so I will not use it to its full potential, but I am happy with this purchase! I like that it is wired, does not need batteries, and has an option to switch to a Mac OS user interface. It is easy to use, plug and play. The keyboard sound is just excellent!

Pros: Sounds nice and feels great to type on. Provides a tool to open up the keyboard which is like a guitar pick. Has a volume nob that mutes when pressed down. Two height adjustable. Supports 5 pins

Cons: Prone to hand sweat/oil stain. The caps are double-shot but the print of the letters are bad because you can feel the legends and it is ABS. Instead of an entire foam covering the PCB where your switch goes on, it’s a thin foam tape specially for where switches would go.

I use this everyday. Had zero issues.

This is some of the best Budget keyboards I've ever used! This company honestly releases really good keyboards for its price, It's comfortable type on for a long period it sounds amazing with a creamy sound as you type. It doesn't weigh much and also its really easy to customize since it's hot-swappable and some nice color options.
Over all a good budget typing experience
